Synopsis: Famine grips Mother Goose land, so Bosko does something about it, in a dream, from which he never awakens, as he is starving in the real world.

Comments: Beige dog with dark ears named Bruno. I get it. Like Pluto. Mother Goose Corn Goodies; pretty big product placement... Old woman who lived in a shoe has one black baby. Fiddler reflections, and multiple background/foreground layers. Lots of boldly close camera shots. I'm not sure why there are two titles; retitle I suppose. Terrible music. Sideshow Bosko gets a rake in the face. Shadows on the wall during procession. Couple almost swears; doesn't have a pot to cook in, farm is shot to, well... Is Everybody Happy? is Bosko's catch phrase.

  1. The swan song for the original Bosko, and it's pretty much self-explanatory why he had to go just by watching the short. Hugh Harmon was going to use his higher MGM budgets to compete with Disney, and while the title character and his dog carried over from the Mickey-Pluto imitation at Warners, the rest of the short is trying to copy the color Sillly Symphonies, and merging the two just doesn't work at all.

  2. So strange to see B&W-style Bosko in color (albeit 2-strip).

  3. Will you post a review of the first "new" Bosko cartoon Run Sheep Run? This was very well done.

  4. It's on the list. Should run in mid December next year. Or if things get waylaid again, some December after that. Or I'll die and not get around to it. Are you related to Rudy Ising, do you use the name because you like the cartoons, or are you coincidentally an Ising who then looked into the cartoons?
